Why should I book AltaVista Lodge?
To put it simply - we care about you! At AltaVista, you can do as much or as little as you wish. Want to book surf lessons, go kayaking, practice yoga and also enjoy other watersports while exploring the Algarve? Sure, we can do that. Prefer to sit by the pool with a cocktail and some good music while enjoying pure sunshine? We got that covered too.
Is AltaVista Surf Lodge in a good location?
It’s great! Praia da Luz is located between Lagos (7km) and Sagres (25km) in the western Algarve. This makes a great base to explore the less touristic and more beautiful side of the region. You will find everything you need - supermarkets, cafes, bars, restaurants, pharmacy and beautiful blue flag beach just a short 15/20 minute walk away. Our location is absolutely brilliant!
Is Praia da Luz nice?
We love Praia da Luz. It has everything that you could need. Bars, shops, restaurants, banks, pharmacies and a glorious sandy beach around 1000m long. There are excellent hiking trails to Burgau and Porto do Mos providing wonderful coastal views.
Is there coffee and tea available?
Our coffee corner in the kitchen is available for you 24/7. You will find a multi use De'Longhi coffee machine, drip coffee machine and kettle for hot water. You can choose from our selection of teas and coffee options. We also provide complimentary biscuits to go with your cuppa.
At our kitchen and bar you will find water taps with filtered drinking water to fill up your bottles.
What amenities do you provide?
At the Lodge we provide as much as possible to make your stay as carefree as possible.
In all (10) bathrooms you will find toilet paper, hand soap, shower gel, air freshener, bath towels, beach towels, hand towels and hair dryer.
All (9) rooms are provided with fresh linen, mini fridge, room safe, under bed storage box and hangers and also a mosquito plug.
Can I bring my own chef / cook?
You are welcome to invite your own chef to cook for your retreat / stay. Please, make sure they provide full service including setting up tables, serving, cooking and also clearing up.
Our caterers - Basil Algarve (Raphael and Ines) are absolutely amazing and will take care of it all if you choose to hire them during your stay.
If you will need extra help during your meal services, our in-house hosts will be delighted to help for extra charge.
Should we book activities in advance?
If you wish to participate in activity as a group, we would suggest to book activities in advance. Depending of availability solo adventurers will be able to book activities last minute as well.
Do I need to hire a car if I stay at AltaVista Surf Lodge?
No. You can walk into Praia da Luz very easily. Additionally, many of our activities (surf camp, kitesurfing, coasteering etc) will pick you up from the lodge. We can also pre-book transfers from Faro airport (1 hour). To explore local area - taxi services and Uber are super accessible and reasonably priced. If you do wish to explore the Algarve at your own pace we can offer car rental through our lodge at very attractive prices.
Are the surf lessons suitable for beginners?
Don’t worry! Many AltaVista guests are trying surfing for the first time. Our experienced and friendly team will take you on a step-by-step journey to build your confidence in the waves. The wetsuit, surfboard, beach transfers and instructions are included in the price.
Does rooms have air-conditioning?
To make your stay with us extra pleasant, starting season 2026 we hope to have installed air-conditioning units in all rooms. To be cool in summer and warm and cozy in winter.
Is the Lodge pet / dog friendly?
Although we are huge animal lovers ourselves, the Lodge does not allow stays with pets.
